With the continuing success of Philippine Popular Music Festival's songwriting competition, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab introduced SONGWRITING WITH THE MAESTRO a year ago. It include lectures on song writing and Filipino music history. The tour is
a program of the PhilPop Music Fest Foundation, an organization that
aims to enrich Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and educate Pinoys about
its importance.
I was able to witness thhe 1st Manila leg held in San Beda College last year. To be honest, at first, the workshop was kinda vague to me. Maybe because I don't have such talent to write lyrics; but I know how to rhyme. Songwriting is more than rhyming words per line, it's about sharing an emotion, an experience, an inspiration.
This year I was lucky enough to again witness #SongwritingwiththeMaestro..
University of Baguio - Despite the heavy rain that poured that weekend, delegates not only from Baguio but also from other provinces up-north. The crowd was a bit timid yet the questions asked by students were more on song arrangement and lyric composition.

MINT College - Although I wasn't able to make it to the actual workshop, knowing that this school has a music production course; I may say majority of the questions was technically inclined.

Adamson University - The largest crowd attendance I ever witness with an estimate of 500+ students. The flow of the workshop was fun-filled. To the surprise of the organizers and Philpop, students were fans of the songwriters. And they know the songs! The students were singing along when the songwriters performed their respective compositions.

There are still a couple of colleges and universities in Metro Manila where the workshop will take place. As for those outside the Metro, details are yet to be announced by Philpop.
