Christian Bautista Launches New Album "Soundtrack"

After about two years, Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista is back with a new album “Soundtrack.” Produced by Universal Records, Christian’s new album includes memorable theme songs from the most romantic movies of all time.

The album’s first single Up Where We Belong, the theme from the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman,” has already been chosen by GMA as the theme of its newest koreanovela “Empress Ki.”

Christian also bared his heart in his rendition of “A Thousand Years,” theme of the phenomenal hit movie series “Twilight.” He also showed his edgier side in “Kiss From A Rose,” theme from “Batman Forever.”

Christian also tapped some of the best female singers to collaborate with him. Former sweetheart Rachelle Ann Go joins him in their rendition of “The Way We Were.” Perennial stage leading lady Karylle performs the romantic “After All” with Christian. This is the first time the two performed a studio duet together. Julie Ann San Jose and Christian went “Cruisin’” in a new duet, while Nikki Gil lent her beautiful voice in the duet “Come What May.”

It's Lana Roi's Time..

PolyEast Records recently released a new album with an international feel. Lana Roi now offers an eclectic mix of urban tilting songs, pop ballads, and dance inducing knockouts through her debut album INNER BASE.

This half-German half-Filipina beauty born and raised in Far West Canada has got a total package of a performer, songwriter and a model.  But with her debut as a recording artist, it will only prove that she’s one the most convincing singers in local pop in terms of conveying a song's essence.

INNER BASE has something for everyone. The album has a hint of dubstep (“Love it Boy,” “Inner Base,” and “Hands Up”); pop inspired tracks (“It’s Time,” “MinaMina,” “Free,” “Special Love” and “Body Pop”); and a few ballads (“This is Your Song” and “You’re All I Need”).

The album consists of ten deliriously catchy pop stompers all written by our sultry songstress. “I remember writing my first song when I was a little girl. Later on, songwriting has become a personal diary,” she recalls. The album also features two songs co-written by Q-York, a Filipino-American hip hop record production duo.

Lana started her singing career in the Philippines when she joined the girl group “Eurasia” as a lead singer and the rest was history. As the album introduces refreshing, urban/dance-pop effort that is upbeat, unique and compliments the artist's vocals well, setting up the beginning of a solid new album cycle, it will definitely show more of her talent as singer, songwriter and on-stage entertainer.

You can also catch Lana Roi in her regular gigs at the Bar 360 and Bar 180, both at the Resorts World Manila on all weekends of August 2014. Also, watch out for Lana Roi’s mall shows to promote her debut album to be posted on her online pages: www.facebook.com/LanaRoi.music; Instagram @LanaRoi and Twitter @LanaRoi

Lana Roi’s debut album INNER BASE is now out in the market distributed by PolyEast Records.

Canadian Popstar, Elsie Estrada Set to Hit the PH Airwaves

Canada is a hot bed of pop music activity. Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morrisette are just some of the big names to have come from the big country up north and this proves that Canadians can pump out great sounding world pop. That's why it's with great anticipation that we're holding our breath for one Elise Estrada.

Dubbed as the “Canadian Pop Princess,” Elise is a singer-songwriter-performer with a string of number one hits to her name. Her music videos are bombastic audio-visual experiences and best of all, Elise has got Pinoy blood pumping in her veins. This foxy Filipina-Canadian had an amazing debut back in 2008 when her album and its title-track “Insatiable” hit number one at the Canadian Billboard pop charts. Her streak continued with another top ten hit in “These Three Words,” before hitting the top again with the R&B tinged pop track “Unlove You.” Elise has since been nominated for the Juno (Canadian Grammy) Award for “Best R&B Soul Album,” and has aced prestigious nods like the “Emerging Artist Award,” “Best New Artist,” and has over 40,000 airplay spins on FM radio for “Insatiable” alone. Over the course of two R&B inflected dance albums, Elise has produced a total of ten Top Ten hits. She has also shared the stage with Lady Gaga, Rihanna, 50 Cent, Sean Kingston, Nelly and The Backstreet Boys, making good on the monicker given her as the “Rihanna Of Canada.”

This March 2014, Elise returns a new album entitled “Round 3,” bannered by the knockout pop track “You Don't Need 2 Know.” On this song, Elise, is in full-on foxy mode. Singing “A girl's gotta have her tricks” for looking good and spills about girl props like “sexy heels, the extra luscious lipstick, the contacts, the colored hair, and the push-up.” But before givig it all away, she takes it all back with snappy chorus of “You don't need 2 know!” Because as Elise herself declares, “some secrets are just between us girls.” It's a nice piece of infectious pop music, and why wouldn't it be? Elise is assisted by her creative A-Team. There's Adam H (Hertzfield), who produced tracks with R&B star Ne-Yo and rock giants Def Leppard, and there's Grammy-winner Orlando Calzada, who has mixed albums for Destiny's Child, Lady Gaga, J.Lo and One Direction. The music video for “You Don't Need 2 Know” was recently released and went straight to number one on Canada's top music channel and is on the front page of Veevo, proving that Elise hasn't lost a beat and is as strong as ever.

“Round 3” is an outrageous burst of catchy pop tunes and up-and-at-'em dance tracks. Besides “U Don't Need 2 Know,” there's the infectious choruses of “Champion”  to jumpstart the album. Pinoy's would also quickly recognize “Over & Out” wherein Elise samples the New Order hit “Bizaare Love Triangle” and turns it into a club thumping electronic dance track. Producer Adam Hertzfield shared that this was one of the longest track to finish “owing to the publishing rights, but when New Order's management heard Elise's take on the track, they finally gave the go-ahead for the track.”

All in all, “Round 3” is a great mix of pop, dance, and ballads. Exactly how Elise Estrada and her award-winning team of producers planned it.

JULY 2014 will see Elise Estrada re-visiting her roots in the Philippines. The singer will be promoting her new album “Round 3” and will do a series of shows that will be announced at a later date.

Viva Record's New Acoustic Artist, Kiko Romualdez

Acoustic guitar-flavored pop music acts are a dime-a-dozen. But every now and then, somebody new comes along who just coaxes you

Say hello then to Kito Romualdez.

This singer-songwriter is originally a native of San Juan, Manila. But he's lived most of his young life in Canada. Now that he's back in the land of his birth, all he wants to do is sing you his songs. His musical influences are John Mayer, Jason Mraz, John Legend, Alicia Keys and a few more choice singers. The common denominator here is that he's into artists who write their own songs.

Maybe that's why Kito is into creating his own material. In fact, the first track off his self-titled debut is a self-penned tune. And incidentally, it's also one of the best tracks in his album.

An imaginitive piece of pop writing, “Ready Ka Na Ba?” is a call to action as Kito asks, are you ready to be in a relationship? It's plain as day as Kito sings “ready ka na ba lumipad, sumayaw at umikot-ikot sa mundong kong ito? ready ka na ba magsaya, kumanta sa mundong nakakahilo?” It's obvious what Kito's asking---are you ready for the rollercoaster ride of love?---It's exciting and nerve-wracking for sure. But you're assured here as Kito ends that little verse with “kapit lang, andito ako.”  Coupled with a head-bobbing melody that you can't escape, “Ready Ka Na Ba?” is an excellent way to start an album.

Kito has a knack for storytelling too. In his 5-track CD, there's an interesting song called “Jack & Jill.”

In this little ditty, the singer re-imagines the famous nursery rhyme, and turns it into a little love story. It's not the nicest of tales though as Kito croons “Jack and Jill didn't fall down a hill, Jack and Jill fell in love. Jack didn't break his crown, he broke his beating heart from Jill not being around.”  That's straightforward heartbreak there, but somehow Kito softens the blow with those ringing, upbeat guitar chords and those light melodies.

Kito's self-titled set also includes a pair of covers in “I Can't Make You Love Me,” and “Suntok Sa Buwan.”

The latter is an original by Grammy-awarded blues and country artist Bonnie Raitt, who Kito claims is a musical influence. Kito says that “country music is big from where I come from in Canada, and this cover is my nod to the folks back there.” The slow tempo, the shimmering guitar arpeggios and the rising string section certainly has “ballad” written all over it. But more than that, this setting shows that Kito can sing a certain way. The boy has got a lot of soul in him as well.

Meanwhile, the OPM alt-pop hit “Suntok Sa Buwan” gets reworked into a love song filled with warm sounding acoustic instruments. If there's ever a need for an unplugged OPM cover to represent Kito, then you don't have to look further than this number.

Kito would like to close his set with an original of course, and the upbeat “She Could Be The One” is just the tune to do it. It's positive, melodic and and you could say hopelessly romantic of Kito, if we're basing from his lyrics.  Some might say Kito's cheesy (and he admits to this). But given the circumstance, if you and your songs sound this good, then by all means, bring on the cheese, and bring Kito Romualdez along with it with the easiest melodies and the catchiest of original songs.

A Class All Her Own, Donnalyn Bartolome is One Hot Kakaibabe

Donnalyn Bartolome is one of a kind.

Sure she got her beginnings at show business by posting videos of herself DJ’ing, acting, singing, rapping, doing a monologue or just plain spilling her heart out in front of a web camera—what a lot of fame seeking individuals are doing these days actually—but she’s one of the rare few who can actually do it with panache.

There are a couple of reasons why a Donnalyn Bartolome works. For one, she’s actually good at what she does. It doesn’t matter if she’s doing her version of the latest dance craze, or doing an adorable impersonation.  Once the webcam light is on, she’s all business. She’s got a ton of character and comes across as candid and is totally into what she’s doing.

All these and the fact the she just registers cute in front of the camera.

You could say that she was born to do this. And the millions of viewers and the hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers and Facebook likers all agree that Donnalyn stands out among the rest.

Donnalyn Bartolome is truly “Kakaibabe.”

Viva Records and Flipmusic finally did what all her fans have been clamoring for ever since. They gave @DJBDonna the perfect vehicle to acknowledge her uniqueness. A tuneful, R&B tinged, pop rap song that celebrates the perfect girl, “Kakaibabe” is the uber-Pinay babe that every guy is looking for.

Simple, no fuss and cool: The kind that radiates positive vibes, is the ideal that Donnalyn is singing about in “Kakaibabe.” Delivered in a convincing rap, coupled with an infectious chorus, the song is Donnalyn personified and what a lot of ladies are like out there actually. The type a guy would want to keep. The girl you’d want to bring home to meet dear old mum.

The song is Donnalyn’s debut single that also happens to be one of the big songs included in the hit summer teen movie “Diary Ng Panget.” It’s also a precursor into what eventually will be a full length album for Donnalyn that is bound to come out later this year.

To inspire and not just be famous.

Another reason why Donnalyn Bartolome is such a hit at social media is that her intention is really not just about being another famous personality. “I want to inspire and not just be famous,” said the singer in one of her video blogs, a statement that would have sound contrived if it weren’t for the fact that a lot of her fans follow her because of her positivity. If you ever get to talk to her personally, she would instantly come across as this sweet girl who just happens to have a knack and handle on all today’s new media.

Until then, Donnalyn would like to say : “Peace around the world and on its axis.”

PETA's Rak of Aegis is Back

After the phenomenal success of its first run, Rak of Aegis has returned for another series of shows.

This June, PETA opens the re-run of Rak of Aegis from June 20 to August 31. The musical is now scheduled to have 67 shows at The PETA Theater Center with a total of 30,000 audience members expected to flock the theater to see this monumental music extravaganza.

ak of Aegis, inspired by the popular songs of the local rock band, Aegis, is a musical filled with visual spectacle showcasing the Pinoy’s natural love for music and innate resilience in the face of calamity. With its successful comedic approach to social issues and its catchy musical arrangements, Rak of Aegis has succeeded in bringing thousands of Filipinos to the theater.

The musical is a playlist of chart-topping Aegis songs such as “Luha,” “Halik,” “Sundot,” “Christmas Bonus,” and “Basang-basa sa Ulan” performed by a mix of talented theater artists led by Isay Alvarez-Seña, Robert Seña, Aicelle Santos, and Joan Bugcat. A story of love, fame and resilience, “Rak of Aegis” is set in a subdivision frequently marred with flood. The story revolves around Aileen, a young promodizer caught in the web of finding love and seeking fame to support her family. A story inspired by Filipino’s resilience, the play showcases the capacity of Filipinos to overcome the greatest peril. “Rak of Aegis” will be a box filled with musical and visual spectacles showcasing Pinoy’s innate love for music. The musical is created by the same women behind PETA’s hit comedy musical “Care Divas,” PETA Artistic Director Maribel Legarda and Palanca Award-winning writer Liza Magtoto, with arrangement and direction by actor-musician Myke Salomon. “Rak of Aegis” features set design by Mio Infante, choreography by Gio Gahol, lighting by Jonjon Villareal, costume design by Carlo Pagunaling, shoe design by Maco Custodio and  accessory design by Joan Pamintuan.
