It's The Kids Moment to Shine..

One more week to go and the search for those unique voices is on. It's the kids turn to showcase what they've got to impress the coaches that would make them turn and say "I WANT YOU!"

Like the other international versions of "The Voice Kids," only three coaches will sit in the famous red chairs and select the artists they want to be part of their team. Coaches Sarah Gerenimo (Popstar Princess), Bamboo (Rock Superstar) and Lea Salonga (Broadway Diva) will again battle it out for vocal supremacy.

Once every team has 18 artists, they proceed to the next round, the Battle Rounds. Unlike the adult version that has 2 artists per team in the ring, the kids edition will have 3 artists in the ring. Afterwhich, the each coach will choose 1 artist per round that will move to the Sing-Off; where six artists from each team will try to give their all to impress their coach.

In the Sing-Off, each coach must pick 2 artists who will get into the Semi-Finals. And these 6 semi-finalists will trim down to Top 4 artists that will battle against each other for the Grand Finals slots. This means one of the coaches might have 2 artists who will compete in the Finale.

The Voice Kids Host, Luis Manzano

How do the coaches prepare for the kids edition?

The level of mentoring is unlike the adult version. All three coaches underwent sessions will a child psychologist on how handle mentorship with the kids during the competition.

During the presscon, Coach Lea Salonga is not present as she is currently on tour with Il Divo; while Alex is one of the housemates in Pinoy Big Brother.

"The Voice Kids" will be hosted by Luis Manzano with Alex Gonzaga.

Don't miss to watch "The Voice Kids" premiere episode this May 24 on ABS-CBN

Salamat sa Iyong Musika, Mr. C

Hangover!

Not from drinking but from the recent birthday/tribute concert to Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.. It was one memorable concert. It even brought me back to my growing up days where I listen to Smokey Mountain. The grand piano in the middle of the stage; reminded me of the show Ryan, Ryan Musikahan on television.

Stars delight!

It was a treat to the audience to watch OPM icons performed every Ryan Cayabyab composition. Celeste Legaspi singing "Limang Dipang Tao". Oh God, hearing her live was just wow! Then a duet from Katy with the original cast, Mitch Valdez and Celeste Legaspi. Another Katy song "Aba, Aba Boogie" with Mitch Valdez and the RCS (the dance choreography was a winner). Noel Cabangon and RCS' renditions of Smokey Mountain hits "Kailan" and "Can This Be Love", respectively. Other artists that performed were Basil Valdez, Kuh Ledesma, Martin Nievera, Baihana, Morisette Amon, Bugoy Drilon and Piolo Pascual. Let's not forget the choir composed of the Ateneo Chamber Singers and Mass Appeal with their a capella rendition of "Da Coconut Nut".

Then and Now..

I just discovered just now that the first three numbers in the concert have a similar concept from Music Man @50, 10 years ago. The only difference was Mr. C's son Toma was part of the current "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika" number. Hajji Alejandro still sang in actual as he was the original interpreter of the hit single. Then Ogie Alcasid performed "Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka"; Janno Gibbs did the same 10 years ago.

Level up!

Every bit of music in the concert played by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gerard Salonga went a level higher. The most applauded part was the rendition of "Tsismis".

The concert ended with everyone singing "Kumikutikutitap". I was glad to have witnessed a magnificent production. Belated happy birthday Mr. C!

Celebrating the Music of Mr. C

His timeless music - Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, Limang Dipang Tao, Paraiso and Kailan.. The groups he mentored - Smokey Mountain, 14K and RCS.. I even watched and sang along with his TV show - Ryan, Ryan Musikahan.. These are just some of the things I remember about the Maestro, Ryan Cayabyab or Mr. C as the people in the industry calls him.

Coming May 3 at the CCP Main Theater, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra Spotloght Series pays tribute to Mr. C's music as they set onstage "The Music of Ryan Cayabyab". Guest performers are Celeste Legaspi, Martin Nievera, Basil Valdez, Piolo Pascual, Mitch Valdez, Noel Cabangoon, Hajji Alejandro, RCS and Baihana along with other artists that had worked with the Maestro

Tickets are available at Ticketworld and ABS CBN Philharmonic Orchestra at 4152272 loc 2409 and look for Karlo Cea.
