Now on its 4th year, the Philippine Popular Musis Festival (Philpop) hopes to furtehr strengthen the landscape of the Filipino pop music industry as it partners with one of the industry's pioneering music organizations - Viva Entertainment.
Viva has a rich history of being part and parcel of some of the biggest names in the Philippine music industry including Basil Valdez, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Andrew E., Freestyle, Ogie Alcasid and many others. Under the stewardship of the man known as Boss Vic, Vicor Music Corporation (now a subsidiary of Viva) became the Home of Orignal Pilipino Music. The company was at the forefront of trends like the Manila Sound, Pinoy Rock and the Metro Manila Popular Music Festival.
Philpop's partnership with Viva is also a homecoming of sorts for Mr. C, who started his career as musical director of the group, The Ambivalent Crowd, one of Vicor's many artists. The master composer is also the very first Metropop winner with the timeless classic "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika," first released under Vicor's Blackgold label in 1978.
With this, the Top 12 finalists are assured of access to Viva's impressive roster of talents. "But the interpreters are not just limited to their artists. We are also open to tapping the best acts that we can find for the entries regardless of label affiliation," as mentioned by Viva Vice President for Corporate Media Baby Gil.
The Top 12 finalists are..
Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana - Triangulo
